Lancome launches limited edition Minaudiere RIL-VIL by OLT

Lancome are marking the first anniversary of their Rouge in Love lipstick and Vernis in Love nail colour collections by teaming up with quirky fashion designer and lipstick lover Olympia de-Tan (OLT, to those in the know), to create an iconic case for the range, containing 12 hand-selected shades (OLT’s favourites from the range), which also adorn the Valentines–ready case design (hint, hint). It’s super cute – underneath the lid, there’s a name-tag (you know, like the ones your mum used to sew on school uniform in case you accidentally swapped a sock or similar) that reads ‘hand made with love in France’. Swoon. As ever with OLT, the embroidered design is inspired by the graphics of the forties and fifties, and the glamour of pin-up girls. Whoever thought up this partnership must be feeling smug – OLT is the perfect match for the vintage–cum–modern Parisian brand.

The minaudiere is OLT’s niche – her cult label has been going strong since she launched back in 2009. It’s totally personal, and everything about the design has a reason (each of which is super cute, I might add). It’s books because she loves literature; she uses chain stitch and stem stitch because they’re the ones her grandmother first taught her; and to finish every piece, Le-Tan uses a clothing label from the boutique where her mother used to shop. The designs look cool, too, and I’m not the only one to think so – the chic-but-edgy clutches have adorned many a hand on this season’s red carpets.  “I wanted to design the cover of an imaginary novel called ‘Rouge in Love’. I love drawing lips, so it was the perfect opportunity…,” says Olympia. “The clasp and side, instead of having a gold finish like my other designs, are silver, like a mirror. Perfect to look into during the evening if you want to touch up your make-up.” It’s a good job she loved creating the case – each one takes Olympia and her team a whopping 18 hours to make. The downside? There’s only 100 limited edition available.  Hurry!  – Olivia Cox
